No room on Fox - No apologies for downing Flight 655

Something tells me you won't be catching this story on Fox News:
"Iran Air Flight 655 was shot down by the US Navy's guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes on Sunday July 3, 1988, killing all 290 passengers, including 66 children, and crewmembers onboard.

The civilian airliner, carrying passengers from Iran, Italy, the UAE, India, Pakistan and the former Yugoslavia, was en route from Iran's southern city of Bandar Abbas to Dubai when it was hit by two SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles launched from the warship commanded by Captain William C. Rogers III.

Following the tragic incident, ranked seventh among the deadliest airliner fatalities, unapologetic US officials said their naval officers had mistaken the Iranian Airbus A300 for an F-14 Tomcat fighter.

They went on to claim that the Vincennes crew had been under a simultaneous psychological condition called 'scenario fulfillment', and had therefore confused their training scenario with reality and responded accordingly."

Blackle.com Promises to Out-Green Google

Blackle.com Promises to Out-Green Google: "Instead of using Google, or Yahoo the next time you want to search for something on the Internet, try using Blackle.com.
Why you ask? White screen space is bad. It eats up energy, and because the site is black it uses less energy, according to Bill Thompson, BBC pundit for the program 'Digital Planet.' Blackle is all black and uses less white space. It connects directly and uses the same Google search engine, just with a sexy black background.
Heap Media, the Australian company that created Blackle, claims that black pixels use less power than Google's bright white home page. So by using Blackle you will be using less energy and reduce carbon emissions."

Excel Tip: Display Last Saved By Date & User

I found this handy tip to date stamp an MS Excel file's last-saved time (and person). (Yes, files do get time-stamped when saved, but if they are ever sent via email, that date-stamp can get over-written when saved off the server to a local hard drive. This little macro stamps the date right into the worksheet.)

Deval Patrick for President

Could this be Obama's vice-president? He certainly likes the way Patrick writes speeches! Notice how he flubs the quote, pauses, and then decides to continue anyways? Funny.

In college, when you write something without citing proper sources, this is known as plagiarism. Usually, they make a big deal about it. Obama obviously didn't think he'd get caught and he obviously wanted to take the credit for saying these things or he would have said, "I like a saying my good friend Deval Patrick has said..." or something to that effect. Patrick is a supporter and I'm sure he was honored to be quoted, even if he didn't get the credit. This should be a red flag to anyone looking at this race objectively, but obviously the Obamamaniacs think their candidate can do no evil. See Part 1 and Part 3 here. (He also like John Edwards.) In Barack Obama, we are seeing the emergence of a BS artist par excellence. You can enjoy his speeches all you want, but he needs a lot more scrutiny or he will screw you and me. (You can quote me on this.)

Trouble for the Bush Library?

From librarian.lishost.org
A group of Methodists is stepping up efforts to force a church vote in July on whether Southern Methodist University has the right to lease out land for the George W. Bush Presidential Library and policy institute….

Rev. Andrew Weaver, an SMU alumnus who is spearheading a fight against the land deal from New York, said he hopes to force a vote at a regional meeting in Dallas in July and persuade delegates not to ratify the mission council action.

Professors at Southern Methodist University who are worried about plans to create a George W. Bush policy institute there have said that they don’t want a partisan center to hurt the institution’s academic reputation.

Faculty critics say that although many of them disagree with President Bush’s policies, they would not object to a library-oriented archive and museum — and they say that in discussions with professors, the university has discussed a vision for such a Bush center. But creating an academic center with a specific goal of boosting the Bush image and agenda strikes many professors as antithetical to a university’s academic values.

Analog Cellular Sunset

From PC World:
"With 4G and WiMax services on the horizon, a new digital wireless era is approaching--but the era of another form of cordless communications is soon to come to a close: namely, analog cellular phone service, which will cease nationally on February 18.
Who cares? Very few, carriers say. But owners of older cell phones, people who are in areas not well served by digital, and owners of home alarm systems should all care.
The shutdown--approved by the Federal Communications Commission--is called the 'analog sunset' because those so-called AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System) networks, which were first deployed in the 1980s and brought cellular service to millions of Americans, will finally disappear."

Falling dollar concerns Opec

Interesting story about the dollar and OPEC. From MEED:
"The difficulties faced by Opec members as a result of the falling US dollar remain a deep concern to the oil cartel. Despite a barrel of crude topping $100 in early January, the 13-member body has lost tens of billions of dollars in potential earnings since the turn of the century, as the greenback has fallen against other currencies.
In 2007, and despite record oil revenues, Opec producers are thought to have earned 10 per cent less than they would have if they had priced their oil in euros. The issue has often been raised on an informal basis by Iran and Venezuela, but Saudi Arabia has steered moderate GCC countries away from the issue, in recognition of its political sensitivity.
Yet the reality of lost revenues is becoming increasingly hard to ignore. Opec secretary general Abdalla el-Badri now recognises that a shift to the euro is becoming an increasingly viable proposition as the currency becomes more established.
A complete switch to the euro, however, would be a short-sighted move. Virtually all oil traded in the international markets is priced in dollars. And while that should not dictate future strategy on its own, nor should the dollar be ditched entirely.
The dollar may continue to fall, but in the future the same depreciation could easily hit the euro, yen or, indeed, any currency.
Pricing oil with a properly weighted basket of currencies may be the best solution.
Finding a consensus among Opec members on the balance of currencies in such a basket would test El-Badri's diplomatic skills. But it would provide a more stable long-term system than the current one.
Opec is not in a rush to make a decision affecting trillions of dollars of its members' revenues. But it is increasingly likely it will make the decision at some point."

A Push-Poll Scandal?

For anyone not yet convinced that Huckabee hasn't earned his nickname "The Huckster", check this out from Newsweek:
"A nonprofit group accused of using aggressive telephone 'push-polling' to attack opponents of GOP hopeful Mike Huckabee shares major donors with Huckabee's official presidential campaign, according to government records.
Common Sense Issues is a tax-exempt group registered in Delaware whose organizers have acknowledged the use of controversial telephone polling tactics to promote Huckabee's presidential bid—and allegedly to trash the campaigns of the former Arkansas governor's rivals. The nonprofit also helped set up and run Trusthuckabee.com, a Web site that was involved in front-line efforts to recruit and mobilize Huckabee supporters to turn out for the Iowa caucuses.
Rival candidates have criticized Common Sense Issues's tactics, questioning whether the group's ties to the Huckabee campaign are really arms-length—as required by federal law. The Huckabee campaign has distanced itself from Common Sense Issues, renouncing its support and joining his rivals in calling for investigations into the nonprofit's activities."

How to REALLY win the War on Terror (an expert opinion)

This guy KNOWS foreign policy. Listen to he says is the only one who "gets it".

John McCain, the Admiral's Son

From the US Veteran Dispatch:
"When two U.S. Army enlisted men were captured by the Viet Cong in 1963, they were plunged into an ordeal that would prove to be a relentless trial of body and spirit by torture. Once they were finally freed, however, their trials began all over again, when their statements critical of the U. S. Vietnam policy landed them in a military court facing a capital offense for violating the military Code of Conduct by 'aiding the enemy.'

But, if your name is John McCain and your father and grandfather were famous admirals, violating the Code of Conduct by 'aiding the enemy' translates into fodder for a political career, book deals, and adulation bordering on sainthood.

Even though news reports of McCain collaborating with the enemy continued from the time he was captured in 1967 through 1970, the Navy never considered prosecution as an option.

Instead, Pentagon pencil pushers chose a political spin that lifted McCain, the former POW turned U.S. Senator, up to a glorified pedestal where he sprouted a halo and wings and became America's 'POW-hero' and today a presidential candidate."

Doubting McCain

Great article! From To The Point News:
"it's hard to trust a man who is drunk - not with booze but with his ego. A man ego-drunk past the 3rd stage of drunkenness, and into the 4th.

Perhaps you have heard the joke about the 4 stages of drunkenness. The 1st stage is, 'I'm handsome!' The 2nd stage is, 'I'm rich!' The 3rd stage is, 'I'm bullet-proof!' The 4th and final stage is, 'I'm invisible!'

A 72 year-old geezer still thinks he's a dashing fighter pilot, 'Ace' McCain. That was his Navy nickname, not because he shot down enemy aircraft, but because he was a 'reverse ace,' having destroyed five of his own airplanes.

He's rich because he dumped his crippled wife who raised his kids and waited for him during his years of captivity to have an affair with then marry a hot young blonde with millions from her millionaire father - millions that financed his run for office.

He thinks he's bullet-proof because his career is built upon a pose of being not just a war hero, but more of a war hero than any other war hero. And he is so ego-drunk that he thinks all the skeletons in his closet are invisible."

How Lincoln Won the 1860 Republican Nomination

Can history repeat itself in 2008?
"How Lincoln Won the 1860 Republican Nomination
by Gordon Leidner of Great American History
One of the most interesting American political stories involves the nomination of Abraham Lincoln to be the Republican party's candidate for President of the United States in 1860. This was the Republican party's second presidential convention, and the man everyone expected to receive the nomination was the powerful and well-known William H. Seward of New York.

Abraham Lincoln, although having recently been introduced to eastern audiences through a series of political speeches in New England, and prior to that having gained some fame due to his participation in 'the Great Debates' with Stephen A. Douglas, was not considered a serious contender for the appointment. How he and his political team brought him from 'dark horse' contender to the victor is the subject of the following article."

To Paul supporters in Missoula, and specifically at the University of Montana, the Montana Kaimin regrets this omission.
In excluding Paul, we stifled both his message and supporters. Cutting people out of the political process is anything but democratic, as several readers have correctly pointed out."

Iran to start new Oil Stock Exchange - No US Dollars

On Sunday Iran announced plans to start a new Oil Bourse (stock exchange) that will not accept dollars; only Yen, Yuan, and Euros. Comment on RP Speech in WV

I hate to say this, but some people are finding out about Ron Paul and his ideas a day late and a dollar short. Here's an interesting article on the Texas congressman's speech to the West Virginia delegates at their GOP convention yesterday.
Here was my comment:
"The idea of Letters of Marque and Reprisal came out on September 12, 2001, the DAY AFTER the attacks in NY and Washington. Read here: http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/document.php?id=755
Ron Paul is on the ball! These other candidates are a bunch of clowns! Also, Ron Paul is anything but an isolationist. He is the only one who wants to trade with Cuba and with any other country that would want to trade with us. No other candidate had the political balls to say this in Miami, including Fred Thompson who favors cuban cigars. Lets stop borrowing money from China to give to Israel and Pakistan! Lets stop being the world's policemen. It costs us too much and gives us nothing in return except the contempt of the world."

Ecuador wants military base in Miami

NAPLES (Reuters) - Ecuador's leftist President Rafael Correa said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador's Pacific coast.

Correa has refused to renew Washington's lease on the Manta air base, set to expire in 2009. U.S. officials say it is vital for counter-narcotics surveillance operations on Pacific drug-running routes.

"We'll renew the base on one condition: that they let us put a base in Miami -- an Ecuadorean base," Correa said in an interview during a trip to Italy. "If there's no problem having foreign soldiers on a country's soil, surely they'll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States."

Trouble in the Middle East!!

From Daily Paul:
US Crashes Internet In Middle East After Saudi Threat, Russia Responds With Air Forces
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

Reports circulating in the Kremlin today are painting a grim picture of just how desperate US War Leaders have become as their economy continues its freefall towards total bankruptcy by their crashing of Global Internet access for the Middle East's banking centers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Iran, UAR, Turkey and Kuwait.

These reports state that the Americans became "enraged" this past week when the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) rejected US demands for an immediate increase in oil production.

Further angering the Americans this past week was Turkey's rejection of US demands for them to sever banking ties with Iran's Bank Mellat, and which allows Iranian continued access to Global banking resources.

But, these reports state, the greatest fears of the United States were raised this past week when Saudi Arabia "warned" the United States to "back off" of its threats against Iran or face the Saudi's decoupling the US Dollar from its enormous World oil trade transactions.

Though the American President [pictured top left with Saudi King] personally went to the Saudi Kingdom to lobby the US's Middle East allies in agreeing for attacks against Iran for the Iranians decoupling of the US Dollar from its oil trade, Bush was quickly rebuffed.

It should be noted that those Nations who have dared to decoupled the US Dollar from their oil trade, Iraq, Iran, Russia and Venezuela, have come under withering attacks from the Americans, and their Western Allies; none worse than the Iraqis who are reported to have suffered over 1 million deaths since being invaded by the US in 2003.

But, as these reports state, the "worst nightmare" of the Americans appeared to be coming true this past week when their Saudi Arabian allies were reported to have begun the decoupling of the US Dollar from their oil trade with the intention of replacing the rapidly declining American currency with the European Euro.

American War Leaders, though, have had previous warnings of the Saudis growing fears of being the holders of trillions of declining US Dollars with Saudi Arabia, for the first time, refusing to drop their interest rates in "lock-step" with the US Federal Reserve, and leading to fears of a "stampede" by other Middle Eastern Nations out of US Dollar backed assets.

Under such a threat, and with the Saudi King growing closer to Iran's President Ahmadinejad [both pictured top left 2nd photo], Russian Military Analysts state in these reports that the United States invoked one of their so called "nuclear options" by severing the three major undersea cables connecting the Middle East's major banking centers to their Western, and Global, counterparts.
The significance to the severing of these cables is the Middle East Banking Centers being denied access to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), based in Brussels and which carries up to 12.7 million messages a day containing instructions on many of the International transfers of money between banks, lies in Saudi Arabia, or any other Middle East Nation, being unable to change their previously, before loss of communication, encoded currency instructions from being changed.

Moscow's actions against the West, in the severing by the United States of these cables, was swift as President Putin ordered Russian Air Force Fighters and Bombers to take immediate action to protect the Russian Nations vital undersea cables in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.

To some of the Russian Air Force assets used we can read as reported by the Reuters News Service article titled "Russia sends bombers, fighters to Atlantic, Arctic", and which says:

"Air force pilots will carry out practice in the areas involving reconnaissance, missile-bombing attacks on a navy attack force of a hypothetical enemy, air-to-air combat and refuelling and patrolling," an air force spokesman said. The bomber group included two Tupolev Tu-160 strategic bombers, codenamed "Blackjack" by NATO, two turbo-prop Tu-95 "Bear" strategic bombers, and eight Tu-22 "Blinder" bombers. MiG-31 and Su-27 fighters were also sent to the region."

To the final outcome of these events it is not in our knowing, other than one Russian Banking Official, wishing to remain anonymous, stating that, "Should the Saudi's effectively decouple their oil from the US Dollar, the United States, for all practical purposes will cease to be a World power as it economy will collapse completely as the US Dollar has no value in and of itself due to the staggering debt of the Americans. Without oil they are nothing."]

Thanks to Ralph Raico, who sends along this comment from Steve Sailer: 'Will McCain, who finished 894th out of 899 at the Naval Academy and who lost five jets, return competence to the White House? To paraphrase Oscar Wilde (and, no, Oscar was never a fighter pilot), to lose one plane over Vietnam may be regarded as a heroic tragedy; to lose five planes here and there looks like carelessness.

Ron Paul endorsed by The American Conservative Magazine

February 11, 2008 Issue
Copyright © 2008 The American Conservative

The presidential fields of both parties have narrowed, and the arguments about how we should move forward are now familiar. TAC believes that only one candidate has put forth a diagnosis of America’s current ills and has a vision to turn the country off its misguided course. That is Congressman Ron Paul, whom we endorse for the Republican nomination.

On the key issue of foreign policy, the differences between the other Republican contenders can be measured in microdots. All remain enthusiastic supporters of the invasion of Iraq and of maintaining a presence there for years to come. All speak as if it is America’s right and duty to station its armed forces over much of the world. All have embraced neoconservative paranoia about the “threat” posed by Iran, setting the table for another war. All, that is, except Dr. Paul.

He is the one candidate who sees how the realities of world power have shifted since the 1990s, the one who recognizes that the time of unilateral American hegemony is over—and can’t be maintained even if it was in our interest to do so. He alone understands that the ever expanding federal government is a far greater threat to American liberty than some tinpot dictator in the Caucasus. By speaking about the benefits of smaller government and limited executive power, he has introduced a generation of young Americans to a more traditional and true style of conservatism—to the movement and the country’s benefit."

The Madness of John McCain

The Madness of John McCain: "John McCain’s reputation as a maverick is no recent contrivance. The senator first captured the media spotlight in September 1983, not long after he’d been elected to his first term in the House, when he voted against President Reagan’s decision to put American troops in Lebanon as part of a multinational “peacekeeping” force. One of 27 Republicans to break with the White House, the freshman McCain made a floor speech that reads as if it might have been written yesterday—by Ron Paul:
The fundamental question is: What is the United States’ interest in Lebanon? It is said we are there to keep the peace. I ask, what peace? It is said we are there to aid the government. I ask, what government? It is said we are there to stabilize the region. I ask, how can the U.S. presence stabilize the region?... The longer we stay in Lebanon, the harder it will be for us to leave. We will be trapped by the case we make for having our troops there in the first place.
What can we expect if we withdraw from Lebanon? The same as will happen if we stay. I acknowledge that the level of fighting will increase if we leave. I regretfully acknowledge that many innocent civilians will be hurt. But I firmly believe this will happen in any event."

Ron Paul has a shot at winning Maine caucuses - Ron Paul- msnbc.com

Ron Paul has a shot at winning Maine caucuses - Ron Paul- msnbc.com: "AUGUSTA, Maine - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has a couple of things going for him at this weekend's Republican caucuses: a band of highly motivated supporters and a natural appeal to Maine's like-minded independents.
His stop in the state earlier this week also made him the only presidential contender from either party to visit before the caucuses.
'I think that (because) he's paid attention to Maine, he'll be rewarded,' R. Kenneth Lindell, Paul's campaign coordinator in Maine, said Thursday."

I thought it would be helpful to make a list of all the available Microsoft Management Console snap-ins and their file names. You can type the file name into Run and launch them from there instead of drilling down a few levels of folders. Plus, it's the "geek" way to do this. ;-)

The Racist Card

The media loves to smear only the people it doesn't like. Here's a "fair and balanced" overview of some choice racist remarks from the actual 2008 presidential contenders.

The Difference: Barack Obama & Ron Paul

Iraq, Iran: All About the Benjamins

A very interesting read about the dollar and the real reason we went to war with Iraq. Article by Krassimir Petrov, published originally on 17 Jan, 2006 but still very relevant and informative. (Thanks to cdwitmer at the Daily Paul.)

From EnergyBulletin.net:
"A nation-state taxes its own citizens, while an empire taxes other nation-states. The history of empires, from Greek and Roman, to Ottoman and British, teaches that the economic foundation of every single empire is the taxation of other nations. The imperial ability to tax has always rested on a better and stronger economy, and as a consequence, a better and stronger military. One part of the subject taxes went to improve the living standards of the empire; the other part went to strengthen the military dominance necessary to enforce the collection of those taxes.

Historically, taxing the subject state has been in various forms—usually gold and silver, where those were considered money, but also slaves, soldiers, crops, cattle, or other agricultural and natural resources, whatever economic goods the empire demanded and the subject-state could deliver. Historically, imperial taxation has always been direct: the subject state handed over the economic goods directly to the empire.

For the first time in history, in the twentieth century, America was able to tax the world indirectly, through inflation. It did not enforce the direct payment of taxes like all of its predecessor empires did, but distributed instead its own fiat currency, the U.S. Dollar, to other nations in exchange for goods with the intended consequence of inflating and devaluing those dollars and paying back later each dollar with less economic goods—the difference capturing the U.S. imperial tax. Here is how this happened."

Fred To Drop Out

From Marc Ambinder on his thatlantic.com blog:
"Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson has told several Republicans that he has decided to drop out of the presidential race and will make public his intentions by close of business.
Thompson does not plan to endorse any rivals for now, even though one of his best friends is Sen. John McCain.
He's been visiting his mother, who is ill, in Tennessee."

If Thompson endorses McCain, it's certainly not going to be rewarded with a spot on his ticket as a running mate. It's almost certain that will go to his new BFF Joe Lieberman. McCain and his dad have been very big supporters of Israel (Google McCain USS Liberty), so this makes a lot of sense. If Thompson really wants to make a difference and seriously impact this race then an endorsement of Ron Paul would be really huge. C'mon Fred! Do the right thing!!

I DON'T Heart Huckabee!

If you think this guy is all baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet, please take a look atMike Huckabee - EXPOSED! to get to know the real Mike Huckabee. Just another egocentric jerk running for president. Another CFR suck-up.

Huckabee's latest: Shrewd or Crude?

From
Digital Journal:
"Mike Huckabee recently called a press conference, in a room filled with negative posters about Mitt Romney, presumably to unveil a new ad campaign. Before the new ad was played however, Mr. Huckabee seemed to have a change of heart. He told reporters the ad would be pulled… but not before showing it to “every news outlet in the country,” according to Fox News"

Can this guy be trusted? The terms "snake in the grass" and "weasel" come to mind.

New Better Gmail 2 fixes New Gmail Glitch

If you use Gmail and Firefox, you really need to get Better Gmail 2 Firefox Extension for New Gmail. It adds a number of cool scripts to Firefox which let you save searches and "floats" the signature up to above the quoted message. This is my only real big annoyance with Gmail.
This utility has been out for a while, but it "broke" when Gmail upgraded to their new interface. Better Gmail 2 once again makes everything works as it should. Thanks, Lifehacker!

McCain Connection to the USS Liberty Incident

I first heard about this incident through Alex Jones' excellent documentary Terrorstorm. Now I read that John McCain's father was in the middle of this whole incident. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to an overzealous support of Israel.

From dissidentvoice.org:
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is the “Conscience of the Senate.” Nevertheless, he won’t come clean about what really happened to the USS Liberty, at the hands of the Israelis, via napalm, gunfire, torpedoes and missiles, on June 8, 1967, 13 miles off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula. McCain’s conscience, it seems, has its limits. I suspect it’s because the powerful Israeli Lobby weighs in so ominously in Washington, DC, protecting the interests of its favorite country -- Israel -- and making sure the mostly mousey congress people are kept totally in line or else. Will ‘Ace’ McCain Flame Out Again?

This is from 2000, but since it's all historical, there's nothing new about it anyway. Still, for anyone who still thinks that Senator McCain is a great choice for prez, please educate yourself on who this guy really is--another "fortunate son", albeit from a military family.

From FreeRepublic.com:
"Over the years he’s played many roles and worn many titles, including Navy aviator, prisoner of war, hero, congressman, U.S. senator, Washington insider, maverick outsider and, now, presidential candidate. But the one title of which few are aware is that of “service ace.”

John Sidney McCain III is known among many of his Vietnam flight buddies as “Ace” McCain. This title has not been bestowed upon McCain because he destroyed five enemy aircraft. On the contrary: It was five on our side — in fact, five of his own. Since throwing his hat into the presidential ring, the fact that McCain was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy nearly at the bottom of his class has been publicized. His star-crossed flying, on the other hand, remains unknown to most."

Ron Paul vs Mike Huckabee

Wow! 68,000 views in 3 days. A real soldier sets the record straight on real honor, what's really going down in Iraq and shows his support for Ron Paul. I was impressed by this guy's ability to articulate his position clearly and forcefully (after a shaky start). Check it out! (Update: The poster got so much attention that he took the vid down. John McCain - Iraq Is Safe and Sunny

Attention CBS News: Dump Katie Couric and hire this guy! "billybobjoe57" has 545 videos on youtube. Sounds like a real internet celebrity to me! Check this video out, but beware of some pg-rated language (that wouldn't make it on CBS News.)
Insane McCain enjoys a glorious walk through the Bagdhad market several months ago. Too bad it was all for the media. There was tons of protection and afterwards the marketplace became a target of violent insurgents.

McCain: "Make it 100!"

Sounds like John "Insane" McCain likes having us over in Iraq. On whether we stay in Iraq for 100 years, McCain says, "It's fine with me." Could this be McCain's "macaca" moment? Pass this link around!

CNN: New Hampshire GOP Boycotts FOX news Forum

Ron Paul gets some great free publicity thanks to Fox News. They decided to exclude him from their candidates forum on Sunday. Way to keep it "Fair and Balanced"! No wonder why they call it Faux News.

Microsoft charges customers for free services

From WindowsSecrets.com:
"Thousands of customers are paying almost $120 USD per year to Microsoft for an Internet subscription service that includes e-mail, security, and other features.

But Microsoft gives away almost identical services absolutely free in Windows Live and the Windows operating system itself, while neglecting to inform those who pay through the nose.

Free Windows Live eclipses MSN Premium

Microsoft's for-pay service, known as MSN Premium, is a collection of broadband features that must be accessed through a special browser: MSN Explorer. Once downloaded and installed, this browser supports Web surfing, an interface for e-mail and calendar programs, and Microsoft's online encyclopedia, Encarta Premium. Other features, such as an included digital image editor, are accessible by launching a separate application."
