John McCain (R-AZ) is the “Conscience of the Senate.” Nevertheless, he won’t come clean about what really happened to the USS Liberty, at the hands of the Israelis, via napalm, gunfire, torpedoes and missiles, on June 8, 1967, 13 miles off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula. McCain’s conscience, it seems, has its limits. No, John McCain doesn't want to go drudging up this dark chapter in the Israeli/American love affair.
He, like almost all other politicians, would rather just sweep the whole thing under the rug and pretend that it never happened.
